Can you really use Craigslist to find legitimate work-at-home jobs? You may at first assume that there is absolutely no such thing. Craigslist only has work-at-home scams, schemes, and everything else in between but I will show you how you can use this site to not only find real companies that hire and need remote workers but also apply to work-at-home jobs using Craigslist.
Here are some practical tips to help you get started.
Start your search in the location in which you are closest to or in a larger city
If you decide to start your job search in one of the larger cities, you may have a greater chance of finding a work-at-home job and spending less time on the site. What major cities am I referring to?
Here are some of the larger ones listed below.
- Houston
- Los Angeles
- Chicago
- Philadelphia
- Phoenix
- San Antonio
- Dallas
- San Jose
- Austin
- Jacksonville
- Nashville
- Indianapolis
- San Francisco
- Columbus
- Forth Worth
- Charlotte
- Detroit
- El Paso
- Memphis
- Boston
- Seattle
- Denver
Because Craigslist is so popular with over 20 billion page views per month, many posters will target this site and in particular the job section because they are aware that people are looking for ways to earn money from home. They may be trying to get referrals, customers, and who knows what else.
What can you do to avoid this?
Search very carefully. Look for things like you would if you were searching in your local newspaper. A job title, job description, job duties, pay, contact information including their name and phone number, and name of the company as well if it is provided. This will enable you to research the company further and do your own investigation. Not all job listings will have everything that I described in this list but try to apply to those jobs that have detailed information included in their post.
Avoid job descriptions like:
Make $700 a week!
Easy money from home
Need extra cash
Get paid daily
Social Media jobs
Get paid to Type
This just an example of some of the ads that you will see there but people will get more creative and experienced posting these ads so they are not limited to what is shown above.
Do not give out any personal information
If a company asks for your bank account information, social security number, or any other personal information just to apply without even knowing whether you will get the job or not RUN FAST! Do not give out your private information to a poster on Craigslist.
Ask questions
If you are not sure if a particular job or company is legitimate, ask someone else. Preferably someone who has worked from home or is knowledgeable about work at home companies even contact the poster and ask him or her specific questions about the job if you are very interested and it seems to be a very vague or shallow listing. If they don’t want to give out any information or want to disclose your earnings, it could be a sign that it is not legit. You have a right to know as much as you can about a company or a job that you want to perform for them before you get fully invested in them.
Search in multiple cities
Do not limit yourself to just one city or location to look for work-at-home jobs. If you have time, search 3 or 4 locations at a time to increase your chances of finding a work at home job.
Search the company’s website
Most likely, if the company that is hiring people to work from home is legitimate, they will have a website that you can visit and browse through. If you found their job listing on Craigslist, look in the career section on their official website and search through the jobs and frequently asked question page to get more information. If there is no company or website listed in the posting, just be careful when proceeding. It doesn’t mean that it is not legitimate because some employers choose to remain anonymous on Craigslist for whatever reason but you will definitely want to find out more especially as you get further along in the process.
Search regularly
As the old saying goes, “If at first you don’t succeed try and try again”. This is also true when it comes to looking for work at home jobs. You may not find anything that interests you or you want to apply to the first time. Does this mean that there are no work-at-home jobs for you? What should you do? Keep looking. You may have to search multiple times on a regular basis but don’t give up. Eventually, you will find a suitable work-at-home job just for you.
