By now you know that you can earn some decent income for writing articles online. In fact, there are even some companies that will pay you an hourly rate to do so. But it would be even better if you could get paid to rate someone else’s article that they have written and get paid an hourly wage but is this even possible? The answer is yes. In fact, you can earn up to $12 per hour rating articles online and I will explain exactly how you can do this and what company you will need to sign up with to get started.
What does an Article Rater do?
Instead of writing the articles for payment, an article rater will read the entire article and examine it based on specific criteria that the company has in place. The first thing that you will be asked to rate is whether the article is creative writing or not. This means that you will decide if the article includes fiction, poetry, humor, or anything that could be considered primarily artistic rather than informative.
For example, this article that I am writing would not be classified as creative writing. If the article falls under the creative writing category, you will select the box on the left-hand side of the page.
You will then rate the article based on substance, organization, grammar, and mechanics. If you are not very familiar with these terms, you will get a thorough description of what it means so that you can rate each area on a scale of 1 to 10. A rating of 1 is considered to be the worst and 10 is the best. Once you have completed these steps, you will move on to the next article and complete the very same steps mentioned above.
How many articles can I rate a day?
At the moment, you are only allowed to rate 100 articles. This is to ensure that your accuracy is up to standard. It also affords other raters an opportunity to rate articles without them being dominated by a few people.
What are the requirements to be an article rater?
You must be at least 18 years of age and live in the United States. In addition to this, you will need to sign up as a worker for Amazon Mechanical Turk or Mturk for short.
How do I get started rating articles?
Once you have created your Mturk account and your account has been approved (the process could take 3 days or less), you will need to log into your account and take their screening test HITS, or human intelligence tasks. In order to find the HITS, you will need to type in the search bar at the top of the page Hubpages to obtain access. You will have 15 articles that you will be required to rate as a part of your screening process.
The test will take an hour or less and you can even take breaks in between the tests.
Will I get paid to complete the test?
Yes. You will receive an email notifying you that you passed the screening process and receive a $3 bonus.
How much will I make per article?
Hubpages will pay you $0.15 for every article that you rate. In addition to this set rate, you will earn bonuses for being accurate. The bonus is based on 10 HITS or articles that you have rated. You can earn an extra $0.10 for having a 70% accuracy rating all the way up to $2.25 for a 95% accuracy rating.
Some Tips to remember when you are rating articles for Hubpages
- Take breaks if you get too tired rating articles because you may give very similar ratings which could make your accuracy rating decline.
- Read over the FAQs, study the rating scale and review example articles that have already been rated before you begin working on these HITS.
- Read the entire article before you rate it.
- You are not required to rate 100 articles per day but you can not rate more than 100 articles daily.
- Your accuracy will improve and change the more articles you rate.

Article rater on MTurk seems to be a task from the past, because my account keeps telling me there are no matches for this task. I looked at my account on 4/17/2018.

I just check MTurk also and it looks like Hubpages has changed their platform and possibly articles are now rated within their team. I will still check to see if they have any jobs for Hubpages posted there from time to time.
